Facebook to let users tag friends in status post

Posted by robin on September 13, 2009 in News |

facebookAccording to product manager Andrew Huang, one can tag their friends over his/her status updates.Expect this feature to be out by the next couple of weeks.

Here’s how it works. Let’s say someone post he’s having lunch at a particular place, now he can tag his friends’ name. This will make it easier for people to search for posts mentioning those particular friends.

This feature is pretty much similar to those found in photos, notes and links.

To mention a friend’s name, simply type “@” [read: "at"] followed by the name. Oh don’t worry about typing the name, because one you type “@”, there will be a drop down list that you may choose from. Neat ? I’ll say this is getting closer to twitter.

One more thing, the “@” itself won’t show up in the post, but instead, a link referring to the name will be displayed.

UPDATE [15 Sept 09]: the feature is live now.
