How to lose a job via Facebook

These days social media and job search go hand in hand. Of course the age old knock on the door and “are you hiring?” scenario is still out there but many people favor job search via networking and making use of online job search sites. Over the years networking platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn have become a must for job seekers. If you aren’t on the web, at times it’s almost impossible to secure a job.  However, some people seem to keep forgetting that social media if not utilized properly can hurt your job search and can lead to job loss. We came across one and had to share it.

losejobThe image above clearly shows the implications if you use social media platforms the wrong way. Of course, when you have a Facebook account it’s your personal account. However, it depends how you are using it. Are you using it to simply connect with your friends and family or are you using it to connect with professionals? Before you go ahead and utilize the power of free speech on Facebook or any other social media platforms make sure you watch what you are saying. Social media has given us tremendous amount of power in terms of job search but it has also made everything we do much more vulnerable. The saying “choose your words carefully” might be true now than ever before.

Google images now search with exact size

Google has rolled out a new features for images search. It is the exact size search. I tested searching for ‘light painting’ with 1024 x 768 size, and it really works.

Beside exact size, one can search based on size larger than a certain number, say  larger than 800 x 600.

The end of megapixel race

The more megapixel, the better. This is what average person believe in. Well, it may be true generally. But may not on some cases. It depends on who you are and what you need. Akira Watanabe, manager of Olympus Imaging SLR department, said “Twelve megapixel is, I think, enough for covering most applications most customers need” to ZDNet. What does he mean ?

Generally, there are 2 kinds of photographer, those who snap for fun and artistic shot (amateurs) and those who snap in a studio (professional). These professionals prefer camera with more MP because they need it for large size prints. With higher MP, the larger one can print because higher MP means smoother image.

Gmail is out of ‘beta’ now

Today Google has finally stripped off Gmail from its 5 years old beta phase. The current Gmail is final version. Of course, it does not mean it won’t be improved.

Google said ‘beta’ label scares away business users as it sounds like something in development, and thus might be unstable. But things changed now. Business users have options to upgrade their mail storage as premium service.

Beside Gmail, other Google Apps that’s also ‘graduated’ from beta are Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Talk, Google Sites, and Google Video. While some other like Google Scholar is still carrying the beta.
